What happens after I have filled in my form?
When we receive your application form we will firstly check that you have provided all the information we require. If you have not provided the required identity documents or completed your form fully we will return the form to you asking for further details. If your form is complete with all necessary information enclosed we will start processing the information that you have provided.
If you currently hold or have ever held a tenancy we will need to write to your landlord for a reference. This will enable us to check your suitability to become a tenant and see how you have conducted your current or previous tenancies. If you have never held a tenancy and live outside the borough of St Helens then we will need you to provide two character references.
If you have indicated on your form that you have been involved or are still involved with any support agencies or probation services etc. we will need to write to them for further information.
Banding

Once all of the necessary information has been received we will be able to assess your application and you will be placed in a band that reflects your current housing need.
Banding has been developed to ensure that those in the greatest housing need are given priority. There are four bands; A to D. Band A is the highest priority band for people in urgent housing need.
We will write to you and tell you which band you are in. We aim to process application forms within ten working days of receiving all of the relevant information.
You should also receive an Under One Roof membership card and information pack in the post within 10 working days of you receiving your banding letter. You will need your membership number to bid for homes or when you need to contact us so it is important that you keep it safe and let us know straight away if you lose it.

What if I have a medical need?
If you have told us that you need to move for medical reasons, your details will be passed to our Advice and Support Officers so that they can contact you in order to complete a medical assessment. The Officers will discuss your circumstances and also look at any other options that may be available to you. The medical assessment will look at how your current housing situation is affecting your health and how a move would help to alleviate or reduce the problems you are experiencing. If a medical award is given and your banding is changed you will be notified of this in writing.
What if I need sheltered accommodation?
If you are over the age of 55 and have requested sheltered accommodation, your details will be passed to the Advice and Support Officers so that they can contact you to complete an assessment. There are two different types of sheltered accommodation - Category 1 with an emergency alarm system and Category 2 that has a scheme manager service in addition to the alarm system. After the assessment has been completed you will be notified in writing of the type of sheltered accommodation you have been assessed as needing. You will only be able to bid on that category of sheltered properties as shown in the advert.
