What is bidding?

Bidding is expressing an interest in a home that is advertised. When you see a property in our advert, if it is in the area you are looking for and the right type of home and you match the criteria, then you are able to bid for up to three properties at any one time.

As with any other bidding process, other people may bid for the same property. That is why Under One Roof has a banding system in place to ensure that those in the greatest need have the biggest chance to getting a property of their choice.

How do I bid?

When you have looked at what is available and chosen a home you are interested in, you can place your bid online, by text or by contacting the Under One Roof team on 01744 63 63 63. When you contact us by phone will need to tell us your Under One Roof membership number and the reference number (s) of the home you would like to express an interest in.

A closing date will be clearly stated in the advert and you must make your bids before that closing date and time, otherwise we can't consider you for the home you want.

Bidding online

You can use this website to search and bid for properties online 24 hours a day when the bidding is open. You will need to log in using your membership details in order to make your bid.

home with tick iconOnce you have logged on to bid the properties that you are eligible to bid on will be shown by a red tick.

home with cross iconThe other properties that are available but which you do not meet the criteria for will be shown by a red cross.

To place your bid, choose the property you wish to bid for and click the bid button, the property will be added to your bid list. You can continue to search through the available properties and add another two properties to your bid list. Once you are happy with the properties you have selected you will need to click the 'submit' button in order to send your bids to us. If you do not click submit then the bids will not be sent. Bidding by Text

You can submit your bids by text message 24 hours a day when the bidding is open. To bid by text simply start your text message with your membership number, followed by your full name, eg 12345 John Smith. Then type in the property reference numbers in preference order. It is important to leave a space between each reference number. If you place three bids your text will look like this:

12345 John Smith 001104 002104 016104

Then send your bids to: 07700 38 63 63.

A confirmation message will be sent when your text is received. This number can only be used for submitting text bids. Standard network rates will apply.

How often can I bid?

Available properties will be advertised every two weeks and Under One Roof members can express an interest in up to three homes every time we advertise. You cannot bid for the same home more than once per advertising cycle.

Under One Roof aims to provide you with enough information to make an informed decision. We will tell you:

  • How much it costs to live there
  • Information on local amenities
  • Number of rooms
  • Which type of applicants will be preferences e.g. families, single people or older people

Please note that many of the properties you could bid for will have a tenant living in them who is preparing to move on. This means that there is a small chance that they might change their mind or you might have to wait several weeks before they move out and the property is ready to move into. If your bid is successful we will give you a provisional date for moving in.

The closing date for bids will always be the Tuesday after the advert has appeared at 5pm.

What am I eligible to bid for?

If you are looking for a property and want to know a little more about the criteria we use in our adverts, read on:

  • Single/couple with children - These properties are suitable for a single person with children or a couple with children. A single person without children cannot bid on these properties.
  • Single/couple without children - These properties are ideal for a single person or a couple with no children.
  • Single/couple with one child 12+ - These properties are usually upper floor flats and so would be considered unsuitable for applicants with a younger child.
  • Single/couple with children with need for adaptations - These properties will have adaptations fitted such as a stair lift or accessible shower and so will be suitable for applicants who have been assessed as in need of adaptations to live in their home.
  • Single/couple with at least three children - These are usually properties with four or more bedrooms which are suitable for larger families.
  • Single/couple aged 28+ - This means that these properties have been designated as suitable for people aged 28 or over.
  • Subject to local lettings policy - Some of the properties we advertise will have an agreed local lettings policy in place and for these properties only there will be specific criteria you will need to meet in order to be considered. More information on the local lettings criteria will be provided in the advert or can be obtained by calling the Under One Roof team.

Publishing Results

We will publish results of properties recently let, including the successful applicant's band, how long the applicant had been waiting to be re-housed in that band and how many bids were placed on the property. We will only publish results once we are notified that a property has been signed up. As some properties we advertise are still undergoing repairs there could be a few weeks before the results appear but we will show them as soon as we are able to.
