How do I apply for Extra Care housing?

Extra Care is relatively new in St Helens and it is very popular so there is a waiting list for all of the Extra Care schemes. The central register of applicants is held by Under One Roof, the service for letting social housing in St Helens.

If you are interested in being considered to rent an Extra Care property then you should contact Under One Roof on 01744 636363 to request an application form. This is the case even if you are already registered with Under One Roof for housing as you will need to complete the application form for Extra Care. If you are new to Under One Roof you will be asked to complete an application form and an Extra Care form.

Help with your application

If you feel you need help with your application or understanding of the Extra Care process, let the Under One Roof team know. The team can provide advice and support where it is needed. If you would like someone to act on your behalf, for example your son or daughter please contact Under One Roof and this can be arranged.

What happens next?

Once your application form has been received the information will be processed and your housing needs will be assessed. If you are registering for the first time and have told us you receive less than 5 hours of care a week you will be contacted by one of our Advice and Support Officers. If you live in St Helens they will arrange to visit you to carry out an initial assessment of your needs.

People with additional care needs

If you have told us on your Extra Care form that you receive over 5 hours of care a week then you will require an assessment to be carried out by the Adult Social Care and Health Department. If you have recently been assessed for care services then this assessment may not be required. If you have not yet been assessed then someone from the Adult Social Care and Health Assessment team will contact you.

What happens after I have been assessed?

Once each assessment has been carried out Under One Roof will contact you and let you know the outcome at each stage of the registration process. We will let you know when you are registered for Extra Care.

Once you have registered your interest in Extra Care housing and your needs have been fully assessed you don't need to bid for Extra Care properties. We will contact you if you are successful
