What will it cost me to live in my new home?

If you already have a place of your own you will know just how much it costs to run a home, on top of the rent and council tax. If this is going to be your first home, you may be surprised at the costs involved. This information aims to give you an idea of what you will have to budget for.

You must make sure you can afford these costs before you accept any offer of a home.

How much will my rent be?

Paying your rent is a priority. The charges below are some of the AVERAGE rent figures for different property types that Helena Homes currently charge (excluding support charges) The rents that are advertised are as accurate as we can give but may be subject to change.

If you are on a low income you may be able to apply for Housing Benefit to assist you in paying for your rent. If you are receiving a support service, you may also be entitled to a Supporting People Grant which will help pay towards your support charge.

The easiest way to pay your rent is via Direct Debit. Details will be provided when you sign up for a tenancy.

Council Tax

Council Tax is payable in addition to rent for general services provided by the Council or which the Council has to contribute to such as Police or Fire Service.

The weekly charge for Council Tax a property in Band A or Band B can vary from £17.00 to £21.00 per week or £900 - £1100 per year depending on the location and size of the property.

If you live in the property on your own you will be entitled to 25% discount off your bill. You may also qualify for a discount if you are substantially or permanently disabled.

Depending on your circumstances you may be entitled to claim Council Tax benefit.
